The CrossBow is sold out. We're expecting the next batch in September 2023. Please contact us to get on the wait list.

While the CrossBow is sold out, check out our Indus 2 as an alternative. It has the same pole architecture and dimensions as the CrossBow, without a WebTruss, but with burlier, more durable fabrics for use by guides and outfitters. The Indus will be shipping in November 2022.

The CrossBow Four-Season is our lightest winter-optimized tent, and has been substantially updated for Winter 2020/2021. With a breathable nylon canopy and numerous venting options, the CrossBow Four-Season protects its occupants against spindrift and dust while keeping condensation to a minimum. Our patented WebTruss gives the CrossBow Four-Season an exceptional strength-to-weight ratio, aided by DAC's new 10.65mm PL poles. The CrossBow Four-Season is perfect for backcountry ski tours, snowshoeing excursions, and fast and light alpine climbing. Because of the dust-proof canopy fabric and excellent wind resistance, the CrossBow Four-Season also makes a fantastic tent for desert camping.

Thanks to the WebTruss, the CrossBow pitches easily in high winds. Unlike pole sleeves, which can lead to pole breakage when pitched in windy conditions, the WebTruss allows you to fully set up and tension the pole structure before clipping the tent body to the poles. This system provides much more strength for the weight than traditional clip-style tents. With internal guyline compatibility and our OutRigger attachment, the CrossBow can be further strengthened against harsh winds or snow loading using the included cord and your own trekking poles.

The 2021 version features our brand new custom 20D sil/sil ripstop nylon with hugely improved tear strength and no PU. It also has larger diameter DAC 10.65mm PL poles, with one of the best strength-to-weight ratios of any pole on the market. Redesigned WebTruss clips make leaving the WebTruss attached to the tent easier, and the updated, larger door shape eases entry and exit. We've also made a variety of refinements to the smaller details of the tent to make use simpler and more intuitive. It also can be used with DAC Twist Clips (included) instead of the WebTruss in less extreme conditions for a weight savings of ~3oz. The new CrossBow also features a through-vent in the fly and tent body with both mesh and ripstop options for buggy conditions. Also more pockets!

The CrossBow can be used with a footprint, which can also be used to set up the CrossBow without the tent body for an ultralight fly-only pitch.

Awesome tent, with usage notes

I got the updated 2021 version of the Crossbow 2. I got this tent because I'm tired of taking tents out of storage and smelling the unmistakable stench of polyurethane (PU) waterproof coatings that are peeling off due to hydrolysis. I religiously dried out my tents before I put them away, but it happens regardless. The polyethylene waterproofing on this tent is MUCH less susceptible to hydrolysis, which means it won't rot out nearly as fast (if ever). I just took it on a winter camping hot spring trip, and I absolutely love it. I particularly love the web truss, which makes a taut pitch easy. Rather than repeat all the great things about this tent, I will suggest some usage notes. 1. A footprint is not necessary for camping on snow. Otherwise, I highly recommend investing in the companion footprint, because the floor fabric is relatively thin compared to heavier classic winter tents. The companion footprint has grommet holes for the tent poles which keep it tight and secure under the tent body. 2. Invest in some liner gloves, because you will need dexterity to properly attach the fly to the poles. That said, once you attach the fly, it's not going anywhere, and the attachment method combined with guy lines adds tons of stability against wind and snow loads.

Maiden voyage went well

Got this tent last year and finally had a chance to take it on a snow camp in the Cascades and I was surprised at how warm the inside of the tent was. it held heat very well. We were camped on six feet of snow depth on a clear night with temps in the 20's. We had the door mesh partly unzipped for ventilation and did not build up moisture on the inside which I could never do with my last 4 season tent. I really like the design, fabric, strength and weight of this tent. Looking forward to more winter hikes with it.

Highly recommend!

This is a well thought out tent. I have used the 4-season version on both St Elias and Denali. The tent held up great in the wind and kept us dry. Excellent craftsmanship as well.
They are pricey but you get what you pay for!

So far so great (Crossbow 2021 model)

I received my pre-order into New Zealand within a week of them coming in to stock in the US which is amazing service. Great comms with Tim who is always ready and willing to answer my myriad of questions.

Just got back from a 4 day, 3 night early Autumn hike and while the weather played ball and I had no adverse conditions, the through vent and mesh top panels of the doors worked wonders for condensation when camped on the beach or on damp grass on still, humid nights. When I first tried the tent at home I was a little nervous about the very thin floor so I bought a footprint for our trip but it was actually surprisingly strong. I'll continue with the footprint to keep it cleaner and lessen any wear from sand or other rough surfaces but I'm pretty confident it won't be needed for waterproofness.

Really liked the taut nylon inner, much better than my old tent that flapped around like a sail at half mast and it definitely made the tent seem bigger inside while the mesh parts kept the biting sandflies out with no troubles. We had two of us in the tent, one LW pad and one medium sized pad and never felt cramped and always had our things at hand with the multitude of strategic pockets.

Great workmanship throughout, easy to pitch and dismantle and feels like a strong and dependable tent coming into our winter season where I hope to give it a proper work out in the hills. Can't wait for some real wind and rain to review it with.
