Description

The ProGuide is our 3P alpine basecamp tent designed specifically for the needs of mountaineering guides and outfitters. With durable fabrics, heavy duty zippers, and ample ventilation, the ProGuide will provide reliable shelter for multiple seasons of heavy use by guides and abuse by clients.

For additional floor protection, we offer a footprint for the ProGuide.

Please note: Since guides usually use deadman anchors or snow pickets, the ProGuide does not come standard with stakes or guylines.

SlingFin ProGuide 3 — Frequently Asked Questions

What is the ProGuide 3’s intended use?

The ProGuide 3 is an expedition basecamp tent. It’s a workhorse designed to hold up to abuse from both the weather and the most unruly clients. It’s our strongest, most durable 3P tent for extended heavy use on the biggest mountains all over the world. The ProGuide has seen use on all 7 continents and is a common sight in mountain basecamps everywhere. While we designed the ProGuide to meet the needs of professional alpine guides, the ProGuide thrives wherever durable protection from mother nature’s worst is the top priority whether or not you’re on the clock. Core ProGuide uses include expeditionary climbing, polar research, remote ski basecamps, Antarctic outfitters, and guides on remote rivers in Alaska.

What sets the ProGuide apart from other 3P basecamp tents?

Materials, design, and features. Pretty much everything, in fact. We use longer-lasting silicone coated flysheet fabric with superior UV resistance to the PU-coated fabrics in most tents. The poles use DAC’s 10.7mm PL tubing with an unmatched strength-to weight ratio and an extra-beefy DAC 13.2mm Pressfit pole for the vestibule, the strongest of any tent this size. Since zippers are often the first thing to wear out on a tent, all the zippers feature pre-installed replacement sliders to nearly double the lifespan of the tent’s zippers before replacements are needed. With snow flaps on both the front and back vestibules, and a plethora of pockets, the ProGuide has all the amenities you need to hunker down when the mountains get angry.

Does the ProGuide 3 need seam sealing?

No, the ProGuide is ready to go! Between the silicone-coated fly fabric combined with the non-wicking thread and double needle seam construction, we have found that the ProGuide fly does not need to be sealed. The tent body floor is fully taped and ready to go.

Can I get repair supplies and spare parts for the ProGuide?

Yes! We are passionate about keeping our tents in the field as long as possible and have spare pole sections, repair fabric, and repair adhesive available on our website. Even if a specific part isn’t listed on our spare parts page we can almost always find the part you need. Just reach out to us and we’ll get you sorted out. Depending on inventory levels we are often able to sell individual components of the tent if you manage to wear something out or damage it beyond repair.

What is the difference between silicone (sil/sil) flysheet fabric and traditional fabrics?

"Sil/sil” means the fabric is coated with silicone on both sides. Silicone-coated fabrics are functionally superior to traditional PU coated fabrics in pretty much every way. They are stronger for the weight, more durable, more UV-resistant, more resistant to mold, absorb less water, pack down smaller, dry out faster, and don’t smell or get sticky over time. They also don’t require DWR treatments. To learn more about fabric coatings and why our flysheets are all sil/sil, click here. Since seam tape doesn’t stick to silicone, some silicone coated flysheets should be sealed before use in very wet conditions, depending on the construction methods, tent design, and fabric itself.
