Kahiltna Dome
Description
Built for groups, the Kahiltna Dome makes a great comm dome, dining tent, or gathering space. With 10 poles and a WebTruss™ System, the Kahiltna Dome has by far the easiest setup of any dome in this category. The Kahiltna Dome excels in windy, harsh, high-altitude, and even hot environments. Because it is a double-wall tent with excellent ventilation, it performs especially well in wet conditions where condensation would be an issue with single-wall domes.
The Kahiltna Dome is our largest double-wall tent, and our largest tent with a WebTruss™ System. The WebTruss can be easily set up in high winds without the tent body, and once the flysheet is in place, the tent body can be installed from the safe confines of the dome. The Kahiltna Dome can also be set up without the tent body for use as a cook, dining, or communication dome. The floor is removable.
There's a stove vent with teflon-coated fiberglass fabric for use with an exhaust pipe.
The Kahiltna dome is the same size and shape as our LFD, but it is a double-wall tent and features a WebTruss, whereas the LFD is a single-wall tent.

SlingFin Kahiltna Dome — Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Kahiltna Dome’s intended use?
The Kahiltna Dome is our 5-meter double-wall basecamp dome for a huge range of conditions. Its double wall construction makes it our best large dome for wet environments. It’s also great for snowmobile or heli-accessed backcountry ski basecamps with larger groups. It handles heavy snow better than its single-wall sibling, the LFD, but the LFD is a better choice for high-altitude base camps in cold environments when UV resistance is the top priority and most precipitation falls as snow. For pretty much everything but that, the Kahiltna Dome is the better choice. With a stove jack, a removable floor, and excellent ventilation, the Kahiltna Dome has provided reliable shelter to groups in just about every environment from the heavy dumps of BC to the tropical warmth of the Yucatan.
Can the Kahiltna Dome be used with a wood stove?
Yes, the Kahiltna Dome comes with a stove jack intended to be used with a wood-burning stove with stove pipes up to 5” in diameter for cold weather base camps. For instructions on using a wood stove with your Kahiltna Dome, click here.
What configurations can the Kahiltna Dome be used in?
The Kahiltna Dome can be set up as a double-wall tent for better condensation management and livability (so many pockets!) or as a single-wall tent with only the WebTruss and flysheet. In this configuration the fly can be partially rolled back to use the tent as a sun shade. The floor in the tent body is removable and can be used with either the tent body or attached to the WebTruss in single-wall mode.
What is the WebTruss, and how does it work?
The WebTruss makes the Kahiltna Dome significantly stronger while keeping the weight manageable. The WebTruss strengthens the Kahiltna Dome by reducing flex in the poles. Tensioning the WebTruss puts compression on the poles, locking them down and providing additional strength at a lower weight penalty than increasing the pole diameter. Crucially in a tent this size, the WebTruss also enables easy high-wind setup by allowing the user to fully set up the poles in the WebTruss before attaching the tent body, minimizing the wind profile when the tent is at its most vulnerable as the poles are being inserted.
Can I get repair supplies and spare parts for the Kahiltna Dome?
Yes! We are passionate about keeping our tents in the field as long as possible and have spare pole sections, repair fabric, and repair adhesive available on our website. Even if a specific part isn’t listed on our spare parts page we can almost always find the part you need. Just reach out to us and we’ll get you sorted out. Depending on inventory levels we are often able to sell individual components of the tent if you manage to wear something out or damage it beyond repair.
