SplitWing Bundle is back in stock! Yay!
The SplitWing is our most minimal shelter for people whose top priority is achieving the lowest weight possible without compromising weather coverage. Designed with thru-hikes and FKTs in mind, the SplitWing and its modular accessories are adaptable to the wide range of conditions that are likely to be encountered on a 4-month-plus adventure.
This bundle includes the SplitWing Tarp, SplitWing Mesh Body, and Removable Vestibule. It's one of the lightest, most versatile shelters around, and with the full system you can optimize it for any of the conditions you're likely to encounter on an extended thru-hike. Save $25 when you buy the shelter, mesh body, and vestibule together. Put the extra money towards your thru-hike shower fund. Or don't.
When used on its own, the SplitWing Tarp is palatial for one and cozy for two. A pair of hardcore UL hikers (or very close friends) will appreciate sharing a shelter that packs down to the size of a grapefruit and weighs less than two packs of ramen per person. At 7.9oz without the 6 included DAC j-stakes (10.3oz all-in), the SplitWing Tarp is damn light. Strategically-placed reinforcements made of our Expedition Series fly fabric keep the SplitWing in one piece when conditions get gnarly.
Unlike most shaped tarps, the SplitWing can be pitched with the front trekking pole anywhere between 105cm-120cm thanks to its front "wings", allowing you to prioritize floor area and storm protection with a low pitch, or provide generous headroom when pitched high. It's closed at the foot end to reduce drafts and increase weather protection.
For added protection, use the vestibule (included with the bundle), which covers the front opening of the tarp, providing 360-degree coverage, perfect for those who are looking for the light weight of a minimal tarp shelter but would rather not give up the comfort and security of a tent.
Add the SplitWing Mesh Body (also included with the bundle) and you'll have all the protection, versatility, and coziness of a double-wall tent but at a scant 21oz trail weight.
To increase the versatility of the SplitWing even more, you can add the removable floor (sold separately) for use instead of the mesh body in bug-free conditions.
Please note we cannot ship SplitWing Tarps to addresses in CA, LA, and NJ. Please contact us if you have questions about CPAI-84 shipping restrictions.

Have you ever wanted to make your entire trail family jealous of how small your shelter packs down to? How teeny your pack is without clumsy tent poles stuffed in the side pockets? How you basically skip along the trail- okay I'll stop now. just stop lurking on other hikers' lighterpacks and order this bad boy stat!
I rocked the Splitwing bundle on my 2019 PCT solo thru hike and can attest - this shelter kicks ass. It packs down so small and weighs basically nothing while keeping you warm and dry at night. It held up to the stormy spring in the desert (make sure you use those guylines!), kept the bugs away with the standalone mesh body in NorCal, and protected me from fearless mice and rain in Oregon and Washington. It stood up to everything thrown at it and still has plenty of life left in it for more adventures.
I even shared this with my partner for a month on trail without damaging our relationship! It's definitely a squeeze, but if you're just going to collapse into it at night and fall asleep immediately, then you're not going to mind another stinky hiker sharing the space.
I also had a few questions about the set up process and found Slingfin's customer service superb. Tim will answer every email you send with the patience of a Tibetan monk available at all hours of the day. If you're going to buy awesome gear, make sure there are awesome people that will stand behind it. Can't wait to see what else this company comes out with.
It's like the size of my camp pillow! (I do have a larger cushiony pillow though..) but still, the size of this tent is less than the size of a Nalgene. If you're going on a solo hike, please please please, leave your 2 person tent at home, leave your 1 person poled tent at home too, go with the Split Wing.
I've used the Split Wing on the last 3 solo trips I've been on, and it works out really well. I love how long it is and how there is a vestibule for even more space. It's an extremely large 1 person tent.
My favorite part is actually the design of the Split Wing, it is like the old pup tents, but reimagined. It has the aesthetic of a pup tent, the engineering of a solid mountaineering tent, and the lightness that we all crave in todays day and age.
The setup can be a bit confusing. When I first took it out, I hadn't learned to set it up, but the second time I went out, I watched the video, learned how to do it well, and now I can set it up faster than I can set up my 2 Lite Trek.
I haven't been in a thunder or wind storm with it yet, but this setup is so solid, I have no doubt it'll hold and even be slightly aerodynamic too!
