The SplitWing Bundle is OUT OF STOCK. We're have no vestibules. You can pre-order one now at a discount and it will ship in mid-late December. Alternatively, you can order the SplitWing Tarp and Mesh Body now for immediate shipment (we still have some left in stock) and order your vestibule when it's back in stock in December.
The SplitWing is our most minimal shelter for people whose top priority is achieving the lowest weight possible without compromising weather coverage. Designed with thru-hikes and FKTs in mind, the SplitWing and its modular accessories are adaptable to the wide range of conditions that are likely to be encountered on a 4-month-plus adventure.
This bundle includes the SplitWing Tarp, SplitWing Mesh Body, and Removable Vestibule. It's one of the lightest, most versatile shelters around, and with the full system you can optimize it for any of the conditions you're likely to encounter on an extended thru-hike. Save $25 when you buy the shelter, mesh body, and vestibule together. Put the extra money towards your thru-hike shower fund. Or don't.
When used on its own, the SplitWing Tarp is palatial for one and cozy for two. A pair of hardcore UL hikers (or very close friends) will appreciate sharing a shelter that packs down to the size of a grapefruit and weighs less than two packs of ramen per person. At 7.9oz without the 6 included DAC j-stakes (10.3oz all-in), the SplitWing Tarp is damn light. Strategically-placed reinforcements made of our Expedition Series fly fabric keep the SplitWing in one piece when conditions get gnarly.
Unlike most shaped tarps, the SplitWing can be pitched with the front trekking pole anywhere between 105cm-120cm thanks to its front "wings", allowing you to prioritize floor area and storm protection with a low pitch, or provide generous headroom when pitched high. It's closed at the foot end to reduce drafts and increase weather protection.
For added protection, use the vestibule (included with the bundle), which covers the front opening of the tarp, providing 360-degree coverage, perfect for those who are looking for the light weight of a minimal tarp shelter but would rather not give up the comfort and security of a tent.
Add the SplitWing Mesh Body (also included with the bundle) and you'll have all the protection, versatility, and coziness of a double-wall tent but at a scant 21oz trail weight.
To increase the versatility of the SplitWing even more, you can add the removable floor (sold separately) for use instead of the mesh body in bug-free conditions.

I have had the chance to use this new light weight set up. This tent, tarp set up is very well laid out. I was looking for a very light set up that could be very versatile. First I thought I would just get a tarp and build my own set up. Then I came across this Splitwing Live It. Looking forward to some long hikes with this very light set up and packs really small to. Slingfin is very helpful to if you are lokking for a light weight one person set up tgis is it. Oh and with the support from this company you can't go wrong. Cheers To Many Happy Trails
I bought this tent for an ultralight 3 season setup in the Eastern US and it is fantastic! Well made, thoroughly thought out and versatile. It’s a great size for one and I love the ability to setup just the bug net- perfect for muggy KY summer nights after a long day on trail.
Bought the SplitWing last fall. Have done a few solo trips with it ranging from freezing 20F nights last October to 60F nights this June. So far it has been a fantastic 3 season solo shelter for backpacking in the Sierras/Yosemite/Grand Canyon. Carrying a 1P tent for me instead of just a tarp is about better protection from wind, rain and bugs for the VERY least weight and size ... otherwise could just carry a 2P tent.
Love the decisions that the designer(s) made. Generously sized when you are inside laying down. So tiny and light it almost disappears in my pack. 100% stops bugs. Well ventilated and comfortable in cold or warm weather. Can be pitched meshed only. Is low slung to avoid winds. Fast to pitch using trekking poles. Fit into tiny campsites. Looks great - sleek!
To be this light and small there are tradeoffs: Can't really sit up or cook in this tent, a bit awkward to crawl in and out on your hands and knees. Setup requires some brain power. Getting a solid pitch is fast once you have watched the Slingfin setup video and have tried it a few times . Durability seems very good ... still the fabric is thin. So I am super careful with things like how I pack up the tent stakes. WISH: the stake bag was made of heaver fabric If you set up the mesh alone; then decide to add the fly you will need to redo poles. To me these are small things compared to the wins in size, weight, sleeping comfort.
I am looking forward to seeing how this the SplitWIng holds up in worse winds, rains and over time - so far 5 stars - just what I was looking for.
I ordered this as a summer compliment to my Crossbow 2 Winter tent. I've only used it once, for two nights at 11,500' on my last ski trip of the season. I received it just in time, as I was leaving town for that trip, and didn't have time to set it up for a test run. I camped on snow and setup was easy. I didn't use the vestibule, as the weather was good. It's not the palace and doesn't have all the options for organizing stuff as the Crossbow, but at only a third the weight, I wouldn't expect that. I really like the material and everything worked perfectly. I like the small pack size even more than the light weight. I like having separate stuff sacks for the components, so I can fill small voids in my pack.
I read concerns about bugs coming in where the three zipper sliders come together, but was surprised at how well they converge. I don't see it as being a problem. I'm looking forward to summer backpacking with it. If I could change anything, I'd have about an inch of tub to the floor. I had to be careful not to kick snow into it as I got in.
Before I review the Splitwing bundle I wanted to comment on SlingFin’s Customer service. I am from Pennsylvania and I ordered during the peak of the Corona virus in the Northeast. There was a minor shipping issue with my order. I immediately received notification from SlingFin of a potential issue. This was followed by a direct text from the president of the company. They immediately addressed the issue and kept me informed through the shipping process. The concern for their customers satisfaction is unmatched. They truly made me feel like they stopped everything for me.
My Splitwing bundle arrived around 7:30pm on a weeknight. I did what any gear addicted backpacker would do. I went out into my backyard and began setting up. The setup time is accurate to their video on the website. The shelter blew my mind! The weight of the tarp, mesh tent, and vestibule are dead on. With the quality stitching and reinforcements at guy out points are top notch. I set-up the shelter as I would in extremely bad conditions. I can assure you the materials can handle significant stress. Next step was get my sleeping pad, quilt, and my dog and test it out overnight. The space the shelter provides is perfect for the two of us. I was expecting to build condensation inside the shelter overnight. In the morning everything thing was completely dry. I should also mention air flows excellent within the shelter without venting. The Arrival of this shelter also meant my first overnight outside with my dog at my side and my Girlfriend in the house. 🙏🙏 I was going so stir crazy. I had been sheltering in place with her for almost a month straight. Since then I have spent 5 nights in the woods. It has been a true game changer with its weight, versatility, and quality. If you do not have a Splitwing get one. I prefer it over all of my other shelter options. You will not find a better essential piece of gear period.
THANK YOU SLINGFIN
